A talented athlete, he was dubbed as the 'pint size' quarterback for Stroudsburg High School. His 1964 win over East Stroudsburg in the Thanksgiving Day game earned him a spot on the Pocono Record's list of the top 100 sporting events of the past 100 years. On the baseball field, his athleticism and passion led him all the way to an offer to play for the Pittsburgh Pirates. His impending Vietnam draft inevitably caused him to miss out on the opportunity, but his love of the game never dwindled. In his adult years, golf was much more than a pastime; it was his true passion. He was a fierce competitor and dominated on the golf course, breaking 70 four times and scoring a 68 twice. In Vietnam, he served as a reconnaissance platoon leader in the United States Army. He served boldly and bravely, and was a proud veteran.
Billy was kind, gentle, honest and hardworking. He was a skilled carpenter and worked in the field for many years. Well known in the community, he enjoyed playing cards, watching his beloved Dodgers and Eagles and spending time with his numerous friends.
Billy is survived by his daughters, who he considered his greatest accomplishments: Melissa Capobianco, Sarah Stiff (Mike Stiff), Emily McAllister (Tim Dunham) and Lindsey McAllister (Adam Haycock). He is also survived by his grandchildren: Madeline, Tyler, Dakota, Benjamin, Gabriella, Mason, Francesca, Carmella, Cole, Myles and Brynlee. He was preceded in death by his much loved granddaughter, Micaela and son in law, Michael.
A viewing will take place on Friday October 25, 2024 from 2-4pm at Bolock Funeral Home, 6148 Paradise Valley Rd, Cresco PA. A funeral service will take place at 4pm, with cremation services to follow.
