Obituary - Pastor Barry Whitmer

MOUNTAINHOME - Pastor Barry L. Whitmer, 76, of Mountainhome, died Wednesday afternoon, December 22, 2021, at Lehigh Valley Hospital - Pocono in East Stroudsburg. He was the husband of Darlene J. (Dewitsky) Whitmer with whom he shared 53 years of marriage.

Born on February 12, 1945 in Coal Township, he was a son of the late Robert E. Sr. and Madaline (Zimmerman) Whitmer and lived in Monroe County for over 55 years.

Barry graduated from Coal Township High School in 1963.

In earlier years Barry worked at Shawnee Press in Delaware Water Gap. He was the founder and pastor of Pocono Bible Church which he started in Long Pond in 1965 and then in 1968 moved to its current location in Mountainhome.

In addition to his wife, surviving are two sons, Philip Whitmer of Long Island, NY and Brian Whitmer of Mountainhome; a sister, Janice Fegley of Burnside; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert E. Whitmer Jr., of Coal Township, and a sister, Sandra L. Lorenz, of Shamokin.

WHITMER - Pastor Barry L. Whitmer, 76, of Mountainhome. Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29, at Oakland Cemetery in Mountainhome with his son, Brian Whitmer, officiating. There will be no viewing. In lieu of flowers, memorial remembrances may be made to Pocono Bible Church, P.O. Box 243, Mountainhome, PA 18342.
